Navigating A Lifequake: Finding Stability In Chaos

I’m here! I’m here!

It has been a month plus since my lifequake. (I found this term in IG and decided it fit the bill.) I admit that I have not been running a very good business since I made the move. There is a lot of transition going on in my life and all of it involves other people so sharing is difficult. It doesn’t help that I am a private person and sharing right now feels really scary. That being said…

You’ve heard the phrase, if you want to make God laugh tell Him your plan, right? The actual Bible verse says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that pervails.” (Proverbs 19:21). Well, I’m here to testify to that truth. I had planned my way but the Lord knew better. All the things I thought I knew are not so but what is being given in replacemen is so much better. As always, this comes down to perspective.

Proverbs 19:21

The big change, that all people close to me know, is that I am going through a divorce. As divorces go, this one teeters on amicable, so that’s helpful. That’s about all I’m willing to say on the matter. I sought the counsel of trusted friends and the advise was to simplify my life. With their help I was able to close my storefronts (NOT the business!), rent out my building, and get a cute townhouse in the heart of Boise. All hard but very good things!

The hardest part of all of this is running my business a different way. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to change my daily routines. I had gotten very used to leaving my house to go to work and then have the routine of sweeping my front walk, watering the plants, and working on upholstery. I like having somewhere to go in the morning. I’ve laid out a few ways to work around this issue…in case you’re working from home & needing some help too!

  • If you have the option to use an outside door to get into your workspace use it. The act of walking out your front door will help with your mental state.
  • Organize, clean or water something before you jump into work
  • Block out time to take a 10 minute walk at mid-morning

Communicating

The other issue is my ability to communicate. Responding to work requests and posting social media gets overwhelming very quickly right now. (Oh, and it took a month to get internet installed at my new place!) It is said the best way to get past overwhelm is to know your Why, at least that’s what Mel Robbins said on one of her podcasts.

My Why is not the same as it once was though. For the first time in my life as a mom, my Why’s revolve around me and not my kids. I built a business around having a child with special needs. Now what? Don’t worry, I found a journal for that! I am going to spending some time figuring out my own path as far as business goes. The life part is going pretty dern well…as in, I have one now!

To wrap up, I just want to say thanks. Thanks for keeping up with me, for reaching out, and for the support. I would like to say I’m doing my best but I often struggle with giving myself any grace, so I’ll say I’m trying. Talk soon!
