These are the two questions I am getting the most. I wonder why that is. It isn’t like I’m moving to the moon! Then again, I grew in the military and moving to an absurdly far away place was normal. I think the biggest confusion comes from my timing. I didn’t share with anyone until the deal was done, the ducks were all swimming happily in a row, and I was ready for the questions that would inevitably be asked. Sharing doesn’t come easily for me — scratch that — with my ADHD tendencies I can be an oversharer, but only of things that affect me. When it comes to sharing news that affects those around me I will stay quiet until it is absolutely necessary to speak.
The Why
Why are we moving to Mississippi instead of Emmett for instance? Easy answer – it’s cheaper than living here. I adore my Idaho, consider Weiser my adopted hometown, but it’s too damn expensive here anymore!
Long answer – Since being a small business owner in a small town, I have had a peek behind the veil of what is actually going on. So many businesses are hanging on by a thread, paying the higher prices because that is the choice they have to make. Meanwhile, the debt continues to grow, choices get harder, and quality of life goes down. Do not get me started on the commute that has to be made for those of that work for someone else! My husband had a great job that required a 4 hour commute daily. Up two hours earlier than need be and by the time he got home he was grumps and tired.
I want a life that allows me to have a successful business, be a part of a community, and take regular weekend trips to relax. Ultimately, we chose Mississippi because of the creative culture, the slower pace of EVERYTHING (I’m actually struggling with that a bit) and the affordability.
The What?!
As I mentioned before, I struggle to share important information in a timely manner. My Dean and I actually started this conversation 2 years ago! Dean has only ever lived between the Treasure Valley and Billings, Montana. There was a huge mental factor there to take into account. Why talk about that with anyone else?
The other issue was selling this house. We had the house up for sale a few times but because of the market and where we are located it was a tough sell. I finally reached out to a good friend to sell our house. While we took a trip to Mississippi to have a look-see at our options she got the house ready and up for sale. We went pending in 3 weeks. All of the sudden I had very little time to figure out next steps. When our buyer’s house went pending a few weeks later it was time to talk. Now I had a deadline. When I shared with my current and former clients there was a bit of a panic and not a few upcoming jobs I was going to miss out on. I had to do the hard thing and take jobs off of my current calendar. Lucky for me, I am blessed with some of the best clients a woman could ask for. The helped make the process almost painless.
Goodbye?
Not quite. Yes, I am leaving Idaho, but I am taking steps to move some of what I do online. I will be working on some online classes for those of you that want to learn. I will also be putting some refreshed furniture up for sale on my website along with some of the tools needed for upholstery. It is an extension of CGD I’ve been wanting to add for a while. Now I’ll have the time! The blog and emails will be continuing too.
Now that you have the Why & The What I can tell you that we are excited to be moving to a beautiful property just outside of Hattiesburg, MS! I will be creating as much content as I can think of to share this beautiful new place with you – or should I say ya’ll!
With love,
