Six weeks, 4 homes, 2 states, and multiple offers. This is a really succinct way of looking at my life lately. We put our home up for sale in Idaho and got an offer 3 weeks later, super. We drove the 2k miles to MS to look at homes, drove home, and put an offer on one. Rejected. Looked at homes, put an offer on another, got accepted – then bumped for a better offer. Took a break, looked at more homes, put another offer in and the inspection report made us run. Now we are back onto the second house we fell in love with and moving forward.

Was that hard to read? It was hard to type. Yeesh.

I have never owned a home before. I had no idea that your dream home doesn’t really exist. You think you know what you want but the more you look, compare it to what is available, the more your priorities shift. I didn’t know that and being the control enthusiast that I am, that wasn’t good. We have very specific things that we need for this move to work. We are having to work outside the box to make all the pieces line up but I think that is a good thing.

I am currently sitting in the car for the 7th day in a row, flipping through magazines trying to imagine what we can do with our new place. Lesson 1: I am getting better and better at looking at the bones of a structure to find what it can become. There is a saying in real estate that has something to do with views and houses…I don’t know. Lesson 2: What I do know now, is that I just said yes to a house that by itself isn’t necessarily what I would have chosen, but the land it’s on is amazing! Park-like setting doesn’t begin to cover it. Lesson 3: When I knew I wasn’t going to get very close to what I wanted I had to change my mindset from settling to finding the gems and trusting that my husband and I could make the dream whatever we wanted.

This has been an experience so far and we have had our fair share of hiccups. The people on both sides of this equation have been amazing though, and are what keep us going. My kids are super supportive, our realtors are amazing, and the community in our new home is already showing up to help. We are so blessed…and tired.

Our move will be done by the end of the month, I can’t wait! Our new home is going to be the basis for a lot of these posts. I sincerely hope you stay in touch because I can’t wait to keep sharing!
